This dissertation is a qualitative case study of the effects of students learning to write at the college level while focusing on topics under the broad umbrella of race, racism, privilege and Whiteness. The study reveals that students in such a course do learn to write at the college level, engaging with complex thought, even as (or perhaps because) they resist the race-themed course content that challenges their former racial identities.a judgment on a focused concept that is not general knowledge, demonstrating why that knowledge is important to the reader.
