Where did the idea come from? A: Eileen [Gormley, the other half of Evie Hunter] and I are great believers in brainstorming over coffee or the odd glass of wine. Along with a great plot, we wanted Summer to be a heroine who was sassy, headstrong and not afraid of anything. Summer might be right and beautiful and appear to have everything a girl could want, but she has discovered that money can't buy love and that fame can quickly turn to notoriety. Underneath her spoilt little rich girl exterior, she has a vulnerable side. She's never met a man who she can really trust. In The Pleasures of Summer we wanted our heroine to come to terms with what she really wants and embrace her darkest desires. Q: This, your second book, introduces us to a new hero: Flynn Grant. Will Jack Winter fans love him too? A: Flynn... Mmmmmmm. [Caroline, concentrate!] When we begin throwing around ideas for a new project we usually start with a hot hero. One of my favorite countries in the world is Scotland. I love the scenery, the wonderful Gothic architecture in Edinburgh and especially the accents. After I said pretty please about a million times, Eileen agreed that we could have a Scottish hero this time around, on two conditions: the hero had to be half-Irish and seriously alpha-male. I had no problem with either. Like Jack Winter, Flynn Grant has an understated, sexy, Celtic charm. He's tough, used to getting the job done and he never takes no for an answer. And Flynn also has a dark side which he keeps on a pretty tight leash ... Q: The reaction to The Pleasures of Winter was fantastic. Were you surprised by how much people loved Abbie and Jack? A: No, not at all. Eileen and I are both voracious readers of romantic and erotic fiction. She loves to write strong male -- dare I say, dominant -- characters and I love independent, feisty heroines who have a life and a mind of their own. Create two people like that, throw them into a terrible situation, add a big dollop of sexual chemistry and you can stand back and watch the fireworks. Q: Keeping your answer relatively clean, is your research for these books very... um... shall we say, practical? A: Absolutely. Eileen and I are very hands on. [Giggles] We owe it to our readers to give a safe and accurate description of some of the more creative things our characters get up to in the bedroom. Some novels we have read contain practices which are unrealistic if not downright dangerous. They should really had a big 'don't try this at home' warning on them. While Eileen is the more adventurous of the two of us, I have my moments and a very vivid imagination. [Laughs] Q: What are you working on now? A: We're in the early stages of researching our next book, which is called The Pleasures of Autumn. Earlier this week, for example, we went to a burlesque workshop which was fabulous fun. Some of the characters in The Pleasures of Summer will re-appear in this one, so watch out for another hot Irish hero. Or maybe more than one...
