This book introduces a novel concept of Phase Evolution Diagrams (PED) for determining the residual life of industrial components. PED is based on the simple themodynamic considerations of precipitation proccess and depict the time-dependence of the concentration of carbon (the fingerprint of thermal history of a component) as a function of time in ferritic steels.Microstructure catalogue: This method involves the correlation of micro- structure with a weighted average service temperature, for e.g. ... of a component in service; the estimated temperature has to be used in conjunction with standard stress-rupture data to estimate the remnant life. It is in this context that an accurate method to identify the thermal history using phase evolution diagram becomes relevant.
