The debilitating consequences of workplace bullying will often prompt targets to turn to mental health counselors for help. However, counselors may not be aware of workplace bullying and how it affects an individual; therefore, counselors might fail to address the root of the problem or even misdiagnosis the individual. Although quantitative studies have significantly added to the knowledge base of workplace bullying, there is a lack of qualitative studies which focus on the perceptions of targets. Therefore, a heuristic design using self-efficacy as the theoretical framework was utilized in order to gain individual perceptions of workplace bullying.
