Finally, we propose an enhanced directional beacon based position locator for UWB systems. We perform detailed mathematical analysis that quantifies the dependence of the algorithm on the variance of noise and the beam pattern. We evaluate the effect of beampattern on the accuracy of position estimate and use Dolph-Chebyshev method to design an optimal beampattern. We also implement the position location algorithm using software radio and directional antenna equipped with stepper motor. We use advanced signal processing algorithms to overcome the shortcomings of low-cost hardware.
