The paper describes a particular mathematical solution technique, the Method of Weighted Residuals or MWR. During this description, the MWR is compared with other techniques used to analyze the turbulent boundary-layer problem and certain special cases or variations of the method are pointed out as they arise at various stages of the development. Finally, after the basic analytical technique is formulated, several possible physical inputs are discussed and some typical experimental and semi-experimental formulations are shown.
