The district developed and implemented district-wide final exams, or CASE, aligned with the standards. The district piloted the CASE in ninth- grade algebra, English, and science courses in June 1998. ... passed the biology test, and 25 percent passed the algebra exam.19 In order to pass, a student needed to answer correctly at least 50 percent of the questions. The district planned to implement CASE exams at the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades by the school year 2001-02.
